Former Miami Hurricane Clinton Portis Considered Murder After Being Scammed, Going Bankrupt
Clinton Portis almost went from rushing for touchdowns to running right into prison.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Portis said he was nearly pushed to kill in order to get revenge after he was scammed out of money and went bankrupt.
Portis had invested some of his NFL earnings to be set aside for his future after he chose to hang up his cleats. However, the people he gave his money to lost nearly all of it.
This led to the former Washington running back wanting to hunt the men down to get pay back for what they did. Portis said he used to sit in his car late at night in Washington D.C. in 2013 with a gun at his side, waiting for one of the men who took his money.
“It wasn’t no beat up,” Portis said. “It was kill.”
Those who lost Portis’ money were never punished legally for their crimes. The men were not allowed to work in the financial industry anymore, but walked free.
“No jail time, no nothing,” Portis said. “Living happily ever after.”
Portis eventually got help from an unnamed friend who was able to talk him out of killing the men who had wronged him.
